Weddings in Udaipur

Known as the City of Lakes, Udaipur is defined by water: palaces and havelis rise from the shores of Lake Pichola, and the Aravalli hills surround the city.

The destination

Why Udaipur

Udaipur is one of India's most loved wedding destinations because few places combine water, palaces and hills so beautifully.

Lakeside and island palaces, terraces and ghats give celebrations a romantic setting, especially at sunset and after dark.

01Landscape and setting
The city is built around lakes, most famously Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake, with the City Palace, island palaces and havelis along their shores and the Aravalli hills all around.
02Celebrations it suits
Lakeside terraces suit evening functions and intimate dinners, island venues make a memorable ceremony setting, and resorts on the edge of the city offer more space for larger receptions.
03Getting there and around
Udaipur's airport, Maharana Pratap Airport, connects the city with major Indian cities. Lanes in the old city are narrow, and island venues are reached by boat, so guest movement needs careful planning.
04When to celebrate
October to March is the main wedding season. The monsoon refreshes the lakes but brings rain, and summer is hot for daytime outdoor functions.
05Design inspiration
With the lakes and palaces as the backdrop, the strongest designs keep sightlines open, use low structures by the water and treat evening light on the lake as part of the décor.

Planning considerations

Celebrating in Udaipur

General points to consider. We’ll discuss the specifics of your venue and plans with you.

  • Udaipur has its own airport, which helps guests travelling from across India.
  • Lakeside and island venues may need boat transfers or specific access plans for guests.
  • Design and set-up at heritage and waterside properties follow each venue’s own rules.
  • The October to March season is the most comfortable for outdoor functions.
